The popularity of round pens has rocketed over the past couple of years, as horse owners have begun to recognise the multiple benefits they bring to equine care, schooling and training. Knights Round Pens was launched earlier this year, by a family who run a forge in Somerset, and who are already well known nationwide for their beautifully handmade iron furniture.
The exceptionally high quality handmade round pens come in several different sizes, which can be varied as they are made in sections. They are fully portable and can be moved easily around paddocks or an arena by one person. When dismantled, a pen also fits conveniently into a standard horse trailer and can be moved and assembled quickly.
Round pens are increasingly being used by horse professionals for classical schooling and training and are also used as a key part of the training processes advocated by Natural Horsemen Monty Roberts and Pat Parelli. Because of their extraordinary flexibility, they are also being put to many other uses including sturdy pens for horses at shows, or temporary, secure pens for sick horses needing special attention.
