The McLaren Method of Photonic Therapy

“McLaren Photonic Therapy is an effective safe, painless, scientifically advanced form of acupuncture, utilizing red light, not laser, to gently stimulate the body’s own capacity to reduce pain, increase the immune response and promote healing.”

 Dr Brian McLaren

B.V.Sc., Q.D.A.H., GradDipVetAcup.(I.V.A.S.), Grad.Dip.Acup.(RMIT), M.App.Sc.(Clin. Prac.), Dip.Phot.Thpy., Adv.Dip.App.Neurophys., Member Int. Assoc. for the study of Pain, Member Bioelectromagnetic Society

Dr McLaren’s primary training was as a vet, interested in farm animals in general and horses in particular.   He became interested in acupuncture because it allowed him to treat various conditions of the horse’s back and hind quarters, for which Western medicine couldn’t really offer an answer, as it is too large an area to X-Ray.  So often problems of the hind quarters were either missed or ignored

Although now retired as a veterinary surgeon, Dr McLaren is one of Australia’s top qualified Vets.   His Acupuncture studies led him to be accredited with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, about as high a qualification in acupuncture that a vet can receive.   He was intrigued by the healing ability of light and went on to develop his Photonic Torch.  The follow on from this was that, as he was able to treat his equine patients using Photonic Therapy with obvious ease and with such good results, and no needles, that his farmer clients began to ask if he could relieve some of their pain in backs/knees etc, and so his human practice began.   He then under took the university degrees of Graduate Diploma in Acupuncture, Master of Applied Science in Clinical Practice, and at the same time at another university studied Chinese language (Mandarin) for two years, which enabled him to study with three Chinese Masters.

Until recently how and why acupuncture worked was not fully understood, and could only be explained in terms of ancient, non-scientific, conceptual terms.        Because of the pain relief experienced by his animal patients and farmers, plus his University research, (the last decade or so, has seen an explosion in knowledge and technology), it has allowed Dr Brian McLaren to be instrumental in explaining scientifically, for the first time, how acupuncture worked, and it can now be shown to be a form of applied neuro-physiology.   Consequently he has been able to develop and introduce this  rational, scientifically advanced method of non invasive “acupuncture” treatment,  using ordinary non-coherent red light (not laser), that is pain free, sterile, safe and very effective…a  complementary medical treatment, which we know today as the McLaren Method of Photonic Therapy

The method of treating disease and injury with light is as old as mankind itself, but   Dr Brian McLaren discovered that by using monochromatic light to classical acupuncture points, the energy of the light (photons) was transformed into electrical energy by the layer of connective tissue under the skin (Collagen)   This electrical energy is transmitted to the brain by the nerves, causing the brain to release particular hormones and other chemicals to relieve pain, increase the immune response, and promote healing.   It is non invasive, safe and simple.

How do I treat my horse?

The McLaren Photonic Therapy system is based on the use of a specific torch-like instrument.  It produces 185mW of energy in the 660nm wavelength; it is then turned on and placed on the skin. This allows a horse to be treated using only 5 to 10 seconds per point.

Normally it takes only 4 to 6 treatments to fix all but the most serious problem.   Treatments are given every second day.  You may give a daily treatment and, even though you can do no harm, it will not make the horse heal any faster, though, in the case of a fresh injury, it will assist in removing pain.

Light energy (photons) is transformed into electrical energy by the connective tissue under our skin.  This electrical energy is transmitted to the brain by the nerves.  Stimulating specific combinations of points on the skin will cause the brain to release particular hormones and other chemicals which relieve pain, increase the immune response and promote healing.

The McLaren Method of Diagnosis and Therapy

The McLaren Method of Diagnosis and Therapy uses broad band 660nm red light to provide the photons required to painlessly and safely stimulate tissue.  Visible light is a small part of the electro-magnetic spectrum and ranges between 400-700nm. Wavelengths below 400nm (ultra violet) have high energy and do not penetrate deeply into tissue.  Above 700nm, in the infrared range, there is less energy per photon and longer treatment times would be required.

The Human manual is included in the Kit, as Human Transpositional points are used on the animal, and it is suggested these points be used post diagnostically.   The Photonic Therapy Torch, like any good tool, has been designed for proper and intelligent use as a complimentary home help therapy.  It is not intended to replace primary health care or professional consultation and diagnosis     ie  your Doctor’s or Vet’s advice.

Liz has received intensive training from Dr Brian McLaren and is at present the only level 3 practitioner in UK.   She is planning to hold a two day school on the 24th and 25th Sept, 2005, at Gales Photonic Therapy, in Denbighshire, N.Wales.    She is available for Lectures, Workshops and Demonstrations.
