MARY WANLESS

“ A pioneer in the field of teaching riding”
Horse Sport

“ I fully recommend Mary Wanless’s teaching methods to anyone who really wants to understand and ride with their mind. At the end of the day. That’s the only way to get the best from your horse”.
Kyra Kirkland

“Heels down” “Shoulders back” “Sit up tall in the saddle” “Hands up - hands down” “Lean back” “ Keep your lower leg still”. Anyone who has ever had a riding lesson will have heard one or all of these instructions. Do we really know what they mean?

Learning to ride well is a mammoth task, far larger than most people realise, yet Mary Wanless believes that virtually every rider can master the essential skills of riding if they are given the right tools. Whilst the world of riding is rich in descriptions about what horse & rider ‘should’ look like, we lack specific and helpful information about exactly ‘how’ to produce these results.

Just as Equine Behaviourists have opened our understanding into our horse’s minds and de-coded the communication between ourselves and our horses, Mary Wanless has translated the language of riding. For 24 years her mission has been to reveal the secrets of great horsemanship, and her groundbreaking research and understanding provides riders with simple pieces of clear information and direct tools for implementing them.

International lecturer and renowned author of over 100,000 sales, Mary has developed her methodology through combining research from her equestrian studies as a BHSI, and her continuing studies in BSc Applied Sports Coaching, BSc Physics, Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Tai Chi, Massage, Anatomy, and Educational Kineseology. Not only has she identified the specifics necessary to transform your riding, but also, she has harnessed these with a complete understanding of how best to get this information into the mind of the rider.

Based on what she calls the biomechanical demands of riding, Mary has considered the riders effects upon the horse. In a short space of time she can realign weight and balance and offer learning strategies that empowers the rider to connect to the horse in a way that makes sense to him, so allowing him to move into ‘self-carriage’, whilst at the same time allowing the rider the security, stability and effectiveness in the saddle that they have always dreamt of.

Mary works internationally across 4 continents, Europe, USA, Australia, South Africa, with riders from novice to club to Olympic standards. These practises are designed to be implemented from the beginning of our riding journey and all the way through it. Her most recent 5th book ‘Ride With Your Mind Essentials’ joins her highly successful four previous titles ‘Ride With Your Mind’, ‘Ride With Your Mind Masterclass’, ‘For the Good of the Horse’, and ‘For the Good of the Rider’. Mary is soon to embark on another of her highly successful annual tours of riding centres across the UK, demonstrating her methods to ever-growing audiences.

Mary’s demonstrations are a must for any rider at any level of competency, beginner to advanced, for indeed they can help transform you into the rider that you always dreamt you were meant to be. As Maria Thompson from the Leicester Mercury experienced ‘In 5 minutes I was given the key to the door I had been knocking on since I was 9 years old – the key to riding well’.

In a world often steeped in tradition, Mary is truly bringing through something remarkably revolutionary.

Demonstrations start at 7.30pm and cost £17.50 adult and £12.50 junior.
You can book tickets by sending cheques made payable to MWD and a SAE to: MWD @ Dido Fisher, 5 Albert Mansions, Hove, East Sussex, BN3 2FS stating the demonstration you wish to attend and the number of tickets you require.
